The secrets of making tubular rain chains: Toh, Ta-ke, and Tama

How We Make Tubular Rain Chains:

・Sheet Metal Press Processing

We specialize in sheet metal press processing. Starting with square stainless-steel sheets, we press process to cut them into circular shapes. This cutting process in pressing is referred to as “Blanking”

The cut-out sheets are then processed into three-dimensional cup shapes using molds. This processing operation is called “forming”

The press machine consists of a vertically moving slide and a bolster (lower die), which together sandwich the sheet metal and press it against the surface of the die to create a shape identical to that of the die.

The tubular rain chain approaches its ideal shape through multiple repetitions of the forming process. Through repeated press processing, a seamless and exquisite rain chain is achieved from every angle.

・Hairline finish on the rainwater chain

The rain chain is brought to a glossy finish through hairline processing, resulting in a luxurious appearance. Hairline processing creates a metallic luster by polishing in the same direction.

・Final coating  

We apply a clear coating to the stainless-steel rain chains. While stainless steel itself is a durable metal, we add a clear coating for finishing. Our stainless-steel rain chains are coated with ceramic paint, making them resistant to dirt buildup and easy to clean with a wipe.

Final assembly of the rain chains begin only after receiving orders.

We ship the rain chains matching your required length. As it can be difficult to extend the length of the rain chains after installation, we recommend ordering the exact length needed or ordering slightly longer lengths to allow for on-site adjustments (trimming the excess).
