Ta-ke Copper Rain Chain – Tube – Copper

Ta-ke is a rain chain made of linked parts shaped like the nodes of bamboo. The repeated shape allows the natural presence of the material to shine through the straight line.

When it rains, water flows down through the inside of the links, becoming a natural part of the view. The Copper finish is unpainted, showing the metal's true texture. As you use it, the color will deepen and change based on the environment.

Description

Ta-ke is a rain chain with parts that swell slightly, resembling the nodes of bamboo. By connecting identical parts in a simple design, we create a modest yet meaningful expression within a straight line.

When it rains, water passes through the inside of the parts, connecting one to the next as it falls. This continuous flow allows the movement of the water to become a visible expression of the building's exterior.

In Japan, bamboo has historically been used as a material for gutters. Ta-ke takes this relationship between bamboo and rain and reimagines it in a form that fits casually with modern architecture.

The Copper finish is left unpainted to embrace the material's natural texture. The way it changes depends on where it is installed and the local climate, shifting over time into a texture that is unique to your specific location.

Rain Chains Crafted from Copper (C1100)

Copper is a timeless material for rain chain. At Seo Rain Chain, we use high-purity C1100 copper. This metal is 99.9 percent pure, which allows the surface to change naturally. It forms a protective layer called a patina. This layer shields the metal from damage and enhances its strength and beauty.

When we ship your chain, the copper has a reddish-brown glow. Over months and years, it deepens to a rich brown. Depending on where you live, it may eventually develop a soft green color. This transformation is not just aging—it is a sign that the metal is breathing in harmony with nature.

Copper is soft, so maintaining a perfect shape requires expert craftsmanship. We apply a hairline finish to the surface. This creates a calm texture and softens the light reflection.

As the rain chain changes with the seasons, it brings a quiet character to your building. Outside of Japan, similar items are often sold as "Bronze Rain Chains," but most are actually made of copper. Our pure C1100 copper naturally develops that rich bronze tone over time, highlighting the material’s lasting elegance.

Copper

This is raw, uncoated copper. Over time, the color deepens and can develop a patina—a natural surface that forms as copper ages outdoors. The change feels calm and organic, which many people love in a copper rain chain.

Support

Can I install the rain chain myself?

Working at heights on a roof can be dangerous, so we recommend hiring a professional roofer. However, some models are easier to install if you feel comfortable doing so yourself.

Please review our How To Install page to decide. If you are replacing a pipe downspout, you will need to remove or cut the pipe, so we recommend a professional for that task.

When will my order arrive?

If your item is in stock, we typically assemble and ship it within one week. (Hamon models may take up to three weeks). Once shipped, we will send you a tracking number so you can see exactly when it will arrive.
Note: If an item is out of stock, we handcraft it to order, which takes 3 to 4 months. Please order early if you have a specific deadline.

Can I adjust the length of the chain?

Yes, we can make the chain to your desired length. Lengthening it yourself is difficult and may cause it to detach, so we suggest ordering a slightly longer chain and cutting it on-site.

If you are unsure about the length (especially when converting from feet), please contact us for advice.

To learn more about extending chains, see:
Connecting Method for Extending Toh, Ta-ke, and Tama.

Please note that the price changes based on length.

What is the drainage capacity?

Please check our Drainage Capacities page for details.
